First let us know what a battery is. You must know that there are two types of electricity. AC Current and DC Current
AC (Alternative Current) Current which is given in our homes through transformers and electric wires. We cannot store or collect AC current.
But DC (Direct Current) current can be stored. The thing inside which we store DC current is called battery or cell. It is of many types. And everyone's capacity is also different.
One of these small batteries, which you must have seen embedded in the desktop motherboard, is used to run the real time clock and CMOS RAM.
- Nickel Cadmium : (Ni-Cad) Battery
- Nickel Metal Hydrated : (Ni-MH) Battery
- Leon Batteries : (Li-ON) Battery
Because gas bubbles come in its cells, to remove which it has to be completely discharged. If not fully discharged, it may explode due to overcharging. That's why now the use of this battery is very little or negligible.
2. Nickel Metal Hydrated :(Ni-MH) Battery
This battery between the lithium-ion battery and nickel-cadmium is also affected by the charging memory effect like the nica, but its effect is somewhat less than that of the earlier battery.
3. Leon Batteries : (Li-ON) Battery
The batteries of all the laptops and mobiles coming today fall under this category because there is no memory effect in it at all. It is light in weight and thin. This type of battery can be charged 3500 to 4500 times, it lasts longer than batteries and batteries. Battery life can be increased by software management of such batteries.
A laptop differentiates itself from a desktop by its mobility. The device that makes the laptop mobile
is the battery inside it. Many professions and higher educations depend on laptop computer in order for them to function properly. Perhaps without a laptop battery there can be a great impact in their day to day life.
1. Battery Model
The most important factor to consider when choosing a laptop battery is to find the battery model. Even same manufacturers make laptop batteries with different model numbers. Identifying them can save significant amount of time spent in finding the correct replacement battery.
Usually the manufacturer, battery model number, country which it is made of and warning signs are printed on the label of the battery. Battery model number is specified in bold which contains letters and numbers. Even though the model number is unique for every battery, still there are some local manufacturers that design duplicate products. Therefore always trust in products from reputable manufacturers.
The best laptop battery brand is the brand of the laptop itself.
It is completely compatible with that particular model tried and tested and genuine.
Never try to order a battery for a laptop from an E-Commerce website nor try to get a generic third party battery for the laptop. It can result in very dangerous consequences.
3. Battery Capacity
Battery capacity is the amount of energy stored inside the battery. Perhaps the battery capacity determines how long a battery will be running on a system. Generally a battery capacity is indicated by 3 notations, Watt hour (Wh), Amp hour (Ah) and Milliamp hour (mah) (1 Ah is equals to 1000 mah). Out of these mah is the most used notation for battery capacity.
When choosing a laptop battery based on its capacity, its recommended to select according to your system and the work load you do with the laptop. If your computer consumes more power and you do heavy tasks every day with your laptop, choose a battery with higher capacity. On the other hand, if you are using your laptop only for the basic level of works choose a lower capacity battery. The greater the capacity, the longer the battery can run before it needs to be recharged, so look for the highest mAh number. Most new ones are rated to at least 5,000 mAh.
Voltage is the difference in potential energy generated by the battery. Like the model number it is too indicated on the label of the battery. There are 4 types of voltage measurements depending on the state of the battery, those are the float voltage, nominal voltage, charge voltage and discharge voltage.
Connector is the place where the battery and the laptop lineup. Make sure to check the connectors in the laptop battery you choose. Having a different connector type or connector placed in different place makes the battery not to support the laptop. And also if the laptop battery is shaped different, then it is obvious that it cannot be placed inside the slot.
Chemical composition is an important parameter that has to be used when choosing a laptop battery. There are 4 main types of chemicals that are used in laptop battery composition. Those are the Nickel Cadmium (NiCad), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH), Lithium Polymer (Li-Poly) and Lithium Ion (Li-ion). In earlier days NiCad and NiMH are used the most. Due to their inability to hold much power and memory defect, Li-ion came into use.
The number of cells present inside the battery decides the capacity of the battery. Which means that the number of cells present has a direct affect on how long your laptop will be running under the battery power. And also more the cells present, heavier the battery becomes. The number of cells used by most of the batteries today is 6, each with 18650 type of cells.
Like other technological products, laptop batteries have a designated service life — the length of time that they're expected to work optimally. This is usually written in terms of cycles, with one cycle consisting of completely running the battery out, and then completely charging it again. Most are are able to go through between 300 and 1,500 charging cycles, and can be used after the maximum cycle count is reached, but may not hold a charge as well. Some computers come with a cycle counter built in, but there is free cycle counting software is also available online for download.
You may additionally want to consider whether you want to buy a brand name laptop battery, like the one your laptop came with, or a generic replacement one. Many brand companies and companies that make generic batteries get their components from the same manufacturers, so it may not make a huge difference, but some brand name versions meet more rigorous safety standards than generic ones, and some do use different, higher quality components. Also, some brand name versions come with better warranties than generic ones. Branded batteries do tend to be more expensive than generic ones though, so if you compare a brand name laptop battery and a generic one and find them to be largely similar, then you may want to go with the generic one.
Besides the issue of branding, you should also think about whether you want a new laptop battery or a refurbished one. Though some refurbished ones are very good and are often much cheaper than new ones, it's a little risky to buy refurbished, since you don't really know how old the battery is, and it may die suddenly. Also, many refurbished batteries don't come with very good warranties, so it may be worth it to just get a new one, especially if you use your laptop a lot.
